Meet the Superformance MKIII-R Cobra.
Superformance specializes in authentic replicas of iconic 1960s sports cars like the Shelby Cobra, Shelby Mustang, and Ford GT40, but its latest creation has been given a modern twist. Meet the MKIII-R Cobra, a classic Shelby Cobra with a modern makeover that could be controversial for fans of the original sports car.
“The Superformance MKIII-R is the perfect combination of an old-school classic automobile infused with a bit of modern-day flair,” said Superformance CEO Lance Stander. “The MKIII-R is a piece of American history, and with a major motion picture release last year that highlighted the Cobra, this vehicle’s popularity is at an all-time high. We took great care to ensure the Superformance MKIII-R lives up to the Cobra’s iconic legacy.”
Built under license from Carroll Shelby Licensing, the Superformance MKIII-R is a meticulously engineered reproduction of the original, painted with an iconic Atlantic Blue-colored livery. While the MKIII-R retains the original Cobra’s shape and wheelbase, Superformance has added new fenders with large air vents featuring optional strakes, a prominent hood scoop, a large rear diffuser, and a front splitter that make it look much more aggressive than the original Cobra.
The suspension incorporates some modern components, as the front of the chassis sports fully independent unequal-length A-arms with adjustable Bilstein coils over telescopic shock absorbers, while the rear utilizes independent unequal-length A-arms with fabricated hub carriers and coil-over shock absorbers.
Pricing for the Superformance MKIII-R Cobra starts at $79,900 – and that’s with no engine installed on the rolling chassis, so you’ll need to buy an installation kit. Supported engines include Ford 302, 351, 460, and 427/428 cubic inch engines with Tremec five-speed or Ford top loader four-speed
